Performance Management

The campus Performance Evaluation System represents a continuous process of planning, communication, evaluation, development and recognition and reward between the employee and the supervisor within the department. The annual evaluation provides an opportunity to formally review each employee as part of the Performance Management System.

The Performance Evaluation System is designed to ensure that performance is properly defined and evaluated for each employee and feedback is provided year-round. Managing performance is an important year-long collaborative process and is crucial to achieving LSU's Flagship Agenda.

Planning Sessions

The Planning Session is for the manager to set major responsibilities, goals, development plan, and review the competencies for employees in Workday. If the Planning Session for an employee is not completed, most sections for the Annual Evaluation will be blank.

Planning Session must be completed by the manager within 30 days of the effective date of the following cases: 

  •  A new Classified and Unclassified/Other Academic employee is hired. 
  • An employee begins another position (lateral move/promotion/demotion/change job).

The standard Planning Session period is as followed:  

  • Classified employees will be conducted on September 1, through September 30.
  • Unclassified and Other Academic employees will be conducted on January 1, through January 31.

Annual Evaluation

The Annual Evaluation is a summary of year-round job performance. It consists of evaluating each major responsibility and competency for employees in Workday. If the Planning Session for an employee is not completed, most sections for the Annual Evaluation will be blank.

The standard Annual Evaluation period is as followed: 

  • Classified employees will be conducted on July 1, through August 18.
  • Unclassified and Other Academic employees will be conducted on November 1, through December 15

Mid-Year Review 

HRM has opted to retire the Mid-Year Review for Classified, Unclassified, and Other Academic employees. The Mid-Year Review will no longer be available for initiation by HRM for you and your team, a decision influenced by considerations related to the structure and user experience within Workday.
