LSU Horizons
Alternative Break Experience
Connecting students with meaningful service experiences in communities beyond campus. Through hands-on projects with local partners, participants will apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world challenges while making a positive impact.
Throughout this experience, our participants work directly with community organizations, gaining leadership experience and building practical skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Our goal is to ensure that these experiences help students to better understand the purpose behind their work and communities they impact.
Through LSU Horizons, we encourage students to step into new environments, contribute in meaningful ways, and return to campus with greater confidence, leadership skills, and a stronger commitment to serving the public good.
LSU Horizons Highlights:
LSU Horizons supports holistic student development by combining service-learning, reflection, and personal growth into one cohesive experience. Built on intentional engagement, students complete over 60 hours of learning through pre-trip preparation, hands-on community service, and a capstone experience grounded in contextual education. With workshops before travel and continued reflection after returning to campus, LSU Horizons is designed to ensure learning extends beyond the trip and creates lasting impact.
Leadership development is woven throughout the LSU Horizons experience through meaningful collaboration with community partners and LSU alumni.

In partnership with Tiger Talks, LSU Horizons helps students make meaning of their service experiences through guided reflection and storytelling. Participants will connect what they learned in the host community to their own growth as engaged leaders through a final capstone presentation.
