Choice Credit for College Learning Program

Overview

LSU's Choice Credit for College Learning Program offers all high-school learners affordable access to college-level courses in an entirely no-risk environment. This opportunity fosters academic self-confidence while providing an introductory exposure to the high demands and challenges of undergraduate curriculum.

Advantages

The Choice Credit program offers students an advantage to gain authentic college-level course experience and complete their high-school diplomas at the same time. Upon completion of the undergraduate course, students may opt to receive the LSU credit if satisfied with their final grade.

Students must meet the Board of Regents’ Minimum Requirements for Academic Dual Enrollment Courses.

LSU provides free mandatory training for classroom coaches supporting Choice Credit courses.

Students who are satisfied with their final college grade may opt-in to receive LSU credit.

High school teachers, called coaches, receive strong support – resources, training, and guidance – to create engaging learning experiences and effectively guide students.

To register, schools/districts pay a $300 fee per student for each three-credit hour course.

LSU will supply an Instructor of Record (IOR) along with a fully asynchronous, stand-alone LSU Choice Credit course, encompassing assignments, assessments, instructional videos, and notes. Additionally, a Choice Credit coach will be assigned as a liaison between LSU and the participating high school. Moreover, LSU will furnish an academic advice framework for students.

Each participating high school assigns a trained teacher (coach) to aid student registration, offer coursework guidance, and maintain ongoing communication with LSU’s Instructor of Record for student success.

Students receive a quality educational experience within their regular high school course structure that matches the pace and rigor of those offered at LSU.

No permanent LSU record of Choice Credit course outcomes will be maintained unless a student explicitly chooses grade transcription after receiving the collegiate final grade.

LSU also offers a safeguards to promote student success in their accompanying high school courses and provides support to teacher/coaches.

Available Courses

The 2024-25 Choice Credit for College Learning Program will offer the following asynchronous college Math courses:

MATH 1015: Basic Mathematics and Applications (CMAT 1203)

Designed for students who wish to continue building prerequisite skills before enrolling in college algebra. Math 1015 counts in the University of Louisiana and Louisiana Community and Technical College Systems (see Louisiana's Articulation Matrix) along with other private and public colleges/universities in Louisiana.

MATH 1029: Contemporary Mathematics (CMAT 1103)

Gen Ed course primarily for students in liberal arts and social sciences at most colleges/universities in Louisiana.

*Other LSU math courses such as College Algebra, Trigonometry, Business Calculus, and Calculus will be offered through LSU’s traditional Dual Enrollment program.
