For an appointment call 225-578-6716 during hours of operation. Appointments are preferred. Patients without appointments may be seen on a first come, first served basis by one of our Urgent Care providers. Emergency care cases always take priority.

Medical Emergencies

An ambulance may be summoned for acute medical emergencies by dialing 578-HELP (4357). State the condition of the person and the
exact location. If you are in a residence hall, a staff person should be notified at once.

The above hospitals accept out-of-state checks. They also accept LSU student insurance. (Please check your policy for limitations.) Any expenses incurred as a result of medical care obtained off-campus, including ambulance service, are your responsibility.

Mental Health Emergencies

It is always recommended that students call the clinic to schedule an appointment for service. However, the  Mental Health Service  has a counselor available for students in times of an urgent situation/emergency during regular clinic hours.

What constitutes an emergency?

Typically emergencies involve traumatic and life-threatening situations, such as suicide and sexual assaults.

What should I do if I have an emergency?

If your situation becomes urgent or if a medical emergency arises immediately:

  • Call Mental Health Service at 225-578-8774 during clinic hours.
    A mental health clinician can talk with you about the urgent situation and plan your next step with you.
  • Call the LSU crisis intervention and referral service, "The Phone" at 225-924-5781.
    Trained counselors are available 24 hours per day to talk with you. All calls are confidential.
  • Go to a local hospital emergency room.
    In Baton Rouge we suggest going to the COPE Team 225-765-6565 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital (5000 Hennessey Blvd.)
  • Call 911.
