Land Acknowledgement Statement

Louisiana State University and A&M College (LSU) — a land-, sea-, and space-grant institution built on lands of Indigenous people — acknowledges, honors, and affirms Indigenous culture, history, and experiences.

At the heart of LSU’s campus are two earthen mounds that are architectural remnants created by Native Americans. By preserving the LSU Campus Mounds, LSU pays respect to the past and recognizes the First Peoples. As a university, we thank them for their strength and resilience as stewards of this land and are committed to creating and maintaining a living and learning environment that embraces individual and cultural differences, including those of the Indigenous peoples of our region.
