Study Abroad Travel Updates

As the new cases of COVID continue to decline around the world, we are currently planning
to run study abroad programs in regions that are not bordering Russia or Ukraine.
LSU (Louisiana State University) does not currently have study abroad programs in
Russia or Ukraine, however, out of an abundance of caution, study abroad programs
will not be allowed to travel to countries bordering active conflict.
As we monitor situations globally, our priority is the health and safety of all LSU
travelers on study abroad programs, as well as the communities that they will visit.
LSU reserves the right to cancel international travel if conditions warrant such cancellation.
Please keep in mind that studying abroad is a voluntary experience and there are risks
of contracting or spreading COVID-19. We encourage all travelers to take the necessary
precautions to stay safe and keep others safe. Students should follow the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) Guidelines for safe traveling abroad, the US State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs guidance, and your host country’s guidance for health and safety. If you experience symptoms
of COVID-19, do not travel.
CDC recommends that all travelers be fully vaccinated. Health, safety, security conditions,
and entry requirements of foreign governments change rapidly. Students should stay
informed of the health, safety, entry requirements, and restrictions of their host
country. Institutions, airlines, and foreign governments may require the wearing of face-covering,
proof of valid COVID-19 vaccination, negative COVID test on arrival, proof of recovery
from COVID, and/or quarantine on arrival at your expense.
You may be exposed to COVID-19 during your travel and program abroad or during your
return to the United States. Regardless of your vaccination status or health status,
you are responsible for taking the necessary precautions to stay healthy and safe
and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The United States requires proof of a negative COVID-19 viral test, taken within
one day of travel, regardless of vaccination status, or proof of recovery from COVID-19
within 90 days (about 3 months) prior to travel from a healthcare provider. Students
are responsible for all costs associated with trip delays, trip interruption, trip
cancellation, COVID-19 quarantine, etc. We advise you to prepare such related costs
and interruptions.
If you need assistance while traveling abroad, please contact LSU’s travel assistance
provider, On Call. If you need medical, security, or travel assistance, regardless of the nature or
severity of your situation, contct On Call 24 hours a day. can provide destination-specific
information on medical and security infrastructure and travel recommendations. Please
ensure that you are registered with the US State Department’s Smart Traveler’s Enrollment Program (STEP) before departing for your program. Registering for STEP will allow you to receive
the latest safety and security information about your host country and enable the
US Embassy or Consulate to contact you in an emergency.

Staying beyond the dates of your program is considered personal travel. LSU’s international
health insurance does not cover students while on personal travel. We recommend securing
travel insurance and trip protection for your safety and well-being while abroad.
