Four faculty members have been named SEC Academic Leadership Development Program (ALDP) Fellows for LSU. The SEC ALDP seeks to identify, prepare and advance academic leaders for roles within SEC institutions and beyond. Since its creation in 2008, more than 300 faculty and academic administrators have completed the SEC ALDP, and program alumni have become deans and provosts, among other senior-level positions, at universities around the SEC and country.

The 2023-2024 fellows are:

  • Inessa Bazayev, Paula G. Manship Professor of Music Theory, President of LSU Faculty Senate
  • Robb Brumfield, Roy Paul Daniels Professor of Biological Sciences, Associate Dean for Research & Administration, College of Science
  • Laura Choate, Jo Ellen Levy Yates Endowed Professor, Director, Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education
  • Graça Vicente, Boyd Professor, Charles H. Barré Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Special Assistant to the Vice President for Research & Economic Development

In 2021, the SEC provosts established an emerging scholars program to help current doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers prepare to be future members of the faculty through professional development and networking. The following five Ph.D. students have been selected as LSU's SEC Emerging Scholars for 2023-2024:

Faculty Fellow in Data Analytics & AI


LSU is actively seeking a faculty fellow specializing in data analytics and/or artificial intelligence (AI) to bolster the efforts of the newly established Office of Data and Strategic Analytics. All LSU A&M, AgCenter, and Pennington Biomedical Research Center faculty members with expertise in data analytics and/or AI are invited to apply. The faculty fellow will collaborate with the Office of Data & Strategic Analytics team on institutional data studies that focus on leveraging AI and employing data analytics to bolster decision-making at the university. Faculty members that hold administrative positions (e.g. associate dean, department chair/director) are invited to attend the 2023 Summer Leadership Institute. The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Zakiya Wilson-Kennedy, the Ron and Dr. Mary Neal Distinguished Associate Professor of Chemistry Education and Associate Dean for Diversity & Inclusion for the College of Science.

Undergraduate Research Information Fair


Do you want to promote research opportunities in your college or department to undergraduates? Host a table at the annual LSU Discover Undergraduate Research Information Fair, which is held during Welcome week. This year, the event will be on Friday, Aug. 18, from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Faculty, researchers, and graduate students are welcome to host a table. Facilitating Learning Online


Developed and facilitated by LSU Online & Continuing Education, this instructor-led four-week course is designed for anyone who is new to teaching online or is interested in learning more about facilitating an online course. Participants will explore best practices in making connections with students, creating a community of learning, and delivering an engaging experience for their students. Spotlight on Generative AI


Developed and facilitated by LSU Online & Continuing Education, this workshop is designed to introduce the concept of generative AI, facilitate discussions about how it can be used effectively by faculty and students, help faculty navigate considerations and limitations regarding AI implementation, and recommend ways to design, revise, and adapt courses with AI.
