Thomas Luke

Thomas Luke is a fourth-year medical student at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans pursuing a dual degree in medicine and public health with a concentration in behavioral and community health sciences. He is serving as the 2023-2024 LSUHSC-New Orleans School of Medicine Student Body President.

Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, Thomas is a proud Louisiana native. A May 2020 graduate of LSU, Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology with minors in psychology and theatre, finishing Summa Cum Laude. While at LSU, Mr. Luke contributed mostly as an LSU Ambassador, a chemistry and physics Supplemental Instructor with the Center of Academic Success, and a student worker in the Office of the Dean of Students.

In his first year of medical school, Mr. Luke directed a week-long camp for children with disabilities, Camp Tiger. Thomas has also founded an advocacy group for queer youth, We Demand More. Mr. Luke has also succeeded in directing reproductive advocacy training with The Southern Center for Adolescent and Young Adult Health Equity, Day with the Doctors with Louisiana Area Health Education Centers, and Family Day for the LSUHSC-NO School of Medicine for the first time in over three years. Thomas has been honored by LSUHSC, having recently been inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion, and dedication to service.

After medical school, Thomas intends to go to residency to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following residency, he plans to pursue a fellowship in a surgical subspecialty, remain active in the public health sphere, and participate in academic medicine.
